Have you ever wondered how you can have access to growing your own organic foods, but are limited by the amount of space you have? This week Saturday June 13th at Withrow Park during its weekly Farmer’s Market, Zora will be doing a container gardening demonstration from 10am-1pm. Zora’s Living Food Boxes are the perfect [...] The garden is beginning to look lush and beautiful, with lettuces and spinach overflowing from containers, crimson red beet seedlings popping up from the ground, and the last of the fiddleheads scattered along the slope of the ravine… With all of this growing abundance, we need to share! We had an informal work party on Sunday to get the hoop house ready to start seeds under glass. The long-awaited hoop-house building workshop will be taking place this Friday october 24th at Green Oasis from noon until around five in the evening. We will be having a barbecue to complement this educational session where we will construct a simple greenhouse-like protective covering over half of the garden in order to push the seasonal limits and [...] Just as important as harvesting what we have sown is preparing the garden for the coming season. This past Friday was busy. Thanks to all of the beautiful volunteers who came out to play! I hope you will all join us again this Friday. There are lots of green beans to munch on and ostrich [...] We have bushels of delicious fresh tomatoes from our friends at Black Creek Urban farm that MUST BE CANNED. Come help us out, learn about food preservation and how we can enjoy yummy local food throughout the winter. |
